Isle Royale Greenstone/Chlorastrolite is Michigan's state gem! They are dark green with a unique "turtle back" pattern. They are rare to see in jewelry, as they are only found in Lake Superior, on the beaches of Isle Royale or the Keweenaw Peninsula. Isle Royale is a remote island in Lake Superior that is 99% federally protected land. No cars are allowed and it is accessible only by plane or boat. It has been illegal to take Isle Royale Greenstones from the island since 2000
